Layne Riggs won Friday’s NASCAR Truck Series race at Pocono Raceway to claim his first win of the year, after Corey Heim had a flat tire on a restart with 19 laps to go in the race.
Riggs was not the dominant driver of the day, only winning Stage 1 because Corey Heim and Carson Hocevar who were both running ahead of him chose to short-pit late in stage one.
Heim went on to win the second stage and it looked like no one was going to be able to deny him victory on Friday, because as is usually the case on race day Heim’s TRICON Garage Toyota Tundra was the dominate truck on the track. Heim led the race high 48 laps out of 80, but that all changed on the lap 61 restart.
Stage three of the race opened up with a pair of cautions as a three-wide battle between Grant Enfinger, Ben Rhodes and Tyler Ankrum went haywire and collected a host of trucks.
The following restart on lap 56, Monroe, Georgia’s Jake Garcia got spun in the hornet’s nest and his Quanta Services Ford sustained heavy damage sending a shower of sparks from his damaged front end as he limped around the track back to pit road.
Riggs found himself in the lead after Corey Heim’s flat tire before the race’s final restart and the No. 7 Spire Motorsports truck of Carson Hocevar was handed a black flag restart violation.
Tanner Gray finished 2nd, Kaden Honeycutt claimed 3rd, Atlanta, Georgia’s Brandon Jones 4th, and Daniel Hemric rounded out the top five. Talking Rock, Georgia’s Chandler Smith claimed the 7th spot at the finish.
Heim dominated the majority of the event around the “Tricky Triangle,” and finished 23rd after his late race misfortune. Though his race ended in disappointment, the Marietta, Georgia native set a record for winning the most stages (12) in a season.

Next Saturday, the series makes its first trek up to Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, Connecticut for the LIUNA 150 (1 p.m. ET, FOX, NASCAR Racing Network Radio, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio).
